NC loses $5.5 billion, 8,100-job Hyundai manufacturing project to Georgia

Soon after weeks of speculation, automobile giant Hyundai Motor Group now officially announced options to make investments more than $5.5 billion in an electric powered motor vehicle and battery manufacturing facility in Savannah, Ga.

Multiple sources affirm Hyundai thought of North Carolina in advance of finding Georgia for the venture, which is expected to produce 8,100 employment.

“Yes, we ended up engaged with this task,” David Rhoades, spokesman for the North Carolina Office of Commerce, told Triangle Enterprise Journal, CBJ sister publication.

Rhoades did not say exactly where Hyundai had viewed as in North Carolina, but it seems to have been each megasites in Chatham County — Triangle Innovation Level and Chatham-Siler Town Innovative Producing Web site (CAM).
