eBay Car Sale – Know Your Total Costs

When taking part in an eBay car sale, it is important that you know and understand all the various costs and fees you will incur during the transaction. Because selling a car is not as simple as selling a used tshirt, there are extra rules that must be followed in an eBay car sale, just like there would be if the car was purchased in person compared to a tshirt at a flea market.

There four different things you should consider.

eBay Car Sale – Tip 1 –

When in an eBay Car Sale you should do a search on similar items first. You want a rough idea what the final cost will be on the item. Also, you may want to use a service such as Kelly Blue Book when purchasing a second hand vehicle so you know what the “going rate” is.

eBay Car Sale – Tip 2 –

You must consider the costs of items such as title, registration, state taxes and possibly shipping costs. Do this prior to making your first bid as sometimes these lessons are better learned before making them. A helpful place to look is at your state’s Department of Motor Vehicles Web site for guidelines on taxes, title transfer, and registration.

Arrange shipping prior to finalizing your bid. Clearly understand what is expected of you and exactly what the seller will do. Ie. are they willing to ship the car for you if you pay for it? You will want to get shipping quotes from companies that ship cars so you know the exact cost. eBay recommends DAS, a company that ships almost all vehicles.

eBay Car Sale – Tip 3 –

If the vehicle is going to result in a bid over $15,000 you will have to give eBay your credit card information. You will be notified by eBay that you need to provide this information so be prepared to comply and allow yourself some extra time. The card is used to confirm your identity and will not be charged. This is in place to help protect both the buyers and sellers from bidding fraud.
